Volunteer Application for DVIC
The Domestic Violence Intervention Center (DVIC) received CAL EMA funding to ensure additional domestic violence intervention services are available to victims of domestic violence, and their families in the greater Sacramento County. “Joining My Sisters House, who also was awarded state funding, in addition to WEAVE enhances our collective ability to respond to the increasing demand for services; even as many social services are being cut”, said Elaine Whitefeather, Executive Director of DVIC.
When asked what makes DVIC stand apart from other agencies, Whitefeather replied “Though there are three CAL EMA organizations in our area, each of us has our own approach and intervention strategies. DVIC has an insider’sperspective. Here at DVIC we bring together the best of the traditional grassroots advocacy from former victims andsurvivors, who after much healing and training provide an insiders’ perspective when speaking to victims whose stories mirror our own. We marry this powerful perspective with the best models for intervention and traditional services. Knowing the internal fears, blocks, barriers and obstacles enable us to speak with personal knowledge and wisdom. Our collaborative partnering philosophies enables us to create a coordinated community response, particularly with the Citrus Height Police Department.” Together, Elaine Whitefeather, Executive Director, and Robin Basinger, Program Director has a collective 45 years of domestic violence experience. As a national consultant and trainer, Elaine Whitefeather has provided her expertise to many state coalitions, shelters and social service organizations, including the Department of Air Force for more than 30 years. With the dedication of the predominately non-paid advocates, DVIC offers 13-services free of charge to clients; these services include but are not limited to:
-24-hour crisis hot-line – 916-728-7210
-Counseling (individual and peer/group)
-Emergency food and clothing
-Emergency response to calls from law enforcement
-Counseling for children
-Legal, court and social services advocacy
-Emergency safe home/shelter for victims and their children
-Award winning, Domestic Violence First Responders Team (DVRT), a partnership with -Citrus Heights Police Department
“We invite anyone experiencing domestic violence to contact us for the support group meeting days and times, TRO clinics, private counseling and other resource information. Our highly trained advocate staff and elite Domestic Violence First Responders Team (DVRT) exemplify our commitment to the victims and families we serve, and reflect our investment in our team, so that we provide quality service and customized care for every woman’s story.” In addition,Whitefeather shared “that state funding ensures our sustainability and affirms for families in Sacramento, that there is help…hope can replace fear, freedom from abuse is possible and tomorrow can be different from yesterday.”
